Getting a 54.22% open rate
Hey everyone,
Just thought I’d share this awesome tweet from my friend Khe Hy.
He’s been writing his newsletter, Rad Reads, for many years now and after all this time, he’s sent over 3 million emails and has a 54.22% average open rate. Wild!
In the tweet thread, he shares 7 tips for achieving such an awesome open rate. My favourite one?
4. Be heroically consistent.
Most writers try to be consistently heroic. They try to hit home runs every time they step up to the plate.
I personally struggle a lot with consistency and have stopped writing many a newsletter. The only way I’m able to keep writing this one is because I know it’s important for the business, so I force myself! I know it’s good to create the habit, and that improvement only comes when you put in the time.
So if you’re struggling with staying consistent with your newsletter, just know that you’re not alone.
Here are some tips that have helped me stay consistent that might help you too:
✅ Find a fellow newsletter writer and be accountability buddies.
✅ Set yourself a target. You must write the next 5 newsletters before you’re allowed to give up. (And then when you hit it, set a new target)
✅ Set yourself a time limit. Instead of trying to write the best newsletter, just try to press send in 30 minutes. A more palatable target and the time limit makes things exciting.

Here are some key things we’ve recently launched:
- Add your own fonts: You can now add custom fonts to your email template by adding
body, body td, * {font-family: Roboto;}into the custom css. Be sure to add fallbacks though, as most email clients only recognise basic fonts (e.g. the ones we include in the theme editor). - Compatibility with WordPress 5.9 FSE site editor.
- Added line breaks compatibility. Aka shift+enter now works.
