Introducing the columns block

Hey everyone,

We’ve just added a brand new columns block to our list of custom email-optimised blocks!

You can find it by typing /ng or /column and look for NG: Columns. That’s the name of the new block!

Why you should use this

Gutenberg already has a columns block, so why did we reinvent the wheel?

If you’ve ever tried creating a 20:80 layout using the core columns block and saw that it broke in email, you’ll know why!

It was impossible for us to properly transform the web html into email html for the core columns block. It worked fine for 50:50 layouts, but the moment you tried to do 20:80 or even 33:33:33, everything broke very quickly.

We want to give you more flexibility and free up your constraints to create all the 2- and 3-column email layouts you can imagine.

Keeping it simple

As a first launch of the columns block, we’ve chosen to keep things simple and focus on optimising columns layouts that don’t break in email.

We plan on adding more functionality in the future!

Once you’ve gotten the chance to try out the new columns block, I’d love to see some of the layouts you’ve built with it. And if you have feature requests for the columns block (or anything else), let me know!
