Hey everyone!

We’ve just made some relatively large updates to our latest posts block:

1. Update block manually: No more dynamic display

The latest posts block is no longer dynamic. Every time you make a change to the content or filter options, you must hit the Update block button in order for your changes to be saved and reflected.

This UX update took a lot of discussion and thought. You see, the first version was dynamic, automatic, and magical. It worked even faster than the core Gutenberg version!

Unfortunately, it worked like an archive. Meaning every time you publish a new post, it will be reflected every where you have the Latest Posts block installed.

Here’s an example: Let’s say you write weekly email digests showing your latest posts for the week. By week 3, you should have 3 different email newsletters. However, if you open up the email newsletters on the web, all 3 newsletters will display the same content – the most recent week’s content. 🤦‍♀️

We tried many different workarounds because we really liked how fast and intuitive the dynamic display was. But in the end, we had to remove it.

To reiterate: You will now have to manually click the Update block button for your new settings to be reflected.

2. Display latest posts from last week/month

Now you can select the time frame for your latest posts!

Let’s say you want to create an email digest that you send every two weeks. You can now display latest posts from the past 2 weeks. You can even select the day and time for when your week starts.

There are also daily, weekly, and monthly options.

I’ll be updating the tutorial video soon, but I just wanted to share this with you quickly as these features significantly change how the Latest Posts block works.

Share your feedback on the Latest Posts block

If you’re currently using the Latest Posts block, please let me know if there’s anything you would like for us to add or change.

David got in touch and asked us to add Authors as an option in the Label display, and now that’s available! 🙂

I cannot promise to add absolutely everything requested as some things are not possible, but we will try our best.

Best,

Lesley
